Fun Fitness for Body and Mind (Ageless Grace)

Term 4, 2020 –
Time: 10am – 10:45am
Price: $ 120

Ageless Grace is a fitness and wellness program designed to promote both physical and brain health. The primary role of the exercises performed in this class are to keep the mind and body youthful and pliable. Research shows that muscles and neurons benefit from the same thing – being active! Greater physical activity has positive effects on slowing cognitive decline.

Exercises are performed in a chair with an emphasis on play, but don’t be fooled this program is harder than it looks! You’ll work up quite a sweat at the end of this 45 min class. The movements in the program are performed seated in a chair to activate and work the core muscle group, stimulate the systems of the body (i.e. digestive, endocrine, lymphatic, respiratory, etc.) and help maintain optimal organ function. The program is vastly different from conventional physical exercise and each class starts with a brain game or activity which is then followed by a physical workout. You don’t ‘clock-watch’ waiting for every agonising minute to tick over, it’s great fun. And don’t assume it’s for the older set, it’s suitable for any age, with benefits that will last a lifetime. Probably the best thing about this class is the fun you’ll have trying to coordinate your body while acting out the workout, it really is a hoot.
The biggest difference between Ageless Grace and other fitness programs is that Ageless Grace simulates both body and mind.
It is based on the cutting-edge science of neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain and central nervous system to change form and function. The program was developed by Denise Medved in response to watching her parents age: her father a physically active man aged with grace while her mother, an intellect struggled in the later stages of her life. This led to Denise developing a program that not only encompasses physical activity but has a strong emphasis on maintaining good brain health. It is based on 7 years of medical research into how we can slow down the ageing process of both our brains and bodies.
Ageless Grace utilizes 21 simple exercise “Tools” addressing many different aging factors, such as: memory, cognitive function, joint mobility, spinal flexibility, right-left brain coordination, bone density, kinesthetic learning, systemic health, balance, fall prevention, self-esteem and confidence. It is done using fun, uplifting music.
The five functions of the brain are also given a workout: Strategic planning, Memory and recall, Analytical thinking, Creativity and imagination and Kinesthetic learning. This is the point of difference between Ageless Grace and other exercise programs.
It intentionally nourishes the mind-body connection and can foster health and well-being, reduce stress, and keep the brain agile and the body responsive. It will allow the body to function efficiently, comfortably and easily throughout the duration of life.
