Course Brief

What were they thinking?

The early 20th century was a period of rapid change in art when the move away from classical realism begun by the Impressionists accelerated towards abstraction.

Why did these young artists see the world so differently from their forebears?

Was it just that they couldn’t paint properly?

We’ll look at some major movements such as Cubism, Dada, Futurism and Fauvism to try to get to the bottom of these questions.

What to bring

  • A notebook and pen.
